Non-toxic sunscreens for all but especially babies & children

Non-toxic sunscreens for all but especially babies & children

When it comes to searching for a non toxic sunscreen I am looking for 3 key factors -

1. Non Nano Zinc Oxide as the main skin protector from the sun. It must be Non nano vs just nano. Because non-nano zinc oxide doesn't pose the risk of entering your bloodstream, you'll steer clear of any potentially harmful or toxic effects. Besides it being the safest option of UV filter to use for human health, it has also been shown to be the safest option for marine life and coral reefs, since Zinc Oxide in its Non-Nano form has been shown not to harm marine wildlife.

The 2nd factor is that the product is made without synthetic fragrance and perfume. Many synthetic chemicals in fragrances are petroleum-based and can be harmful to human health. Chemicals found in fragrances include phthalates, which are endocrine disruptors, and carcinogens benzophenone and styrene. In addition, some children and adults have allergic reactions to fragrance chemicals.

Thirdly, minimal clean ingredients, some sunscreens include a long list of chemicals that aren’t truly necessary. There are really good ones out on the market that use a base of nourishing oils/butters such as tallow (beef fat), MCT oil (coconut oil), cocoa butter, shea butter or beeswax. Natural emollients are always better for the skin vs synthetic deferred versions.

Suntribe

Made with Non-Nano Zinc Oxide, this organic and mineral sunscreen provides safe broad spectrum UVA & UVB protection from the first moment of application. Doesn’t sting if it gets in the eyes. Comes in an innovative sugar cane tube and leaves a faint white cast so you can easily see where your child is protected from the sun. Gentle natural sunscreen with a natural vanilla scent.

Remnant Beauty

Baby Safe Zinc Sunscreen SPF 30 This formula uses non-nano zinc oxide together with nourishing, skin friendly oils and butters. I love that it has Carrot Seed Oil in too, as this adds a natural extra sun protection of its own (apparently around 38-40 spf). The beeswax also ensures that it is waterproof and should stay on during swimming and water activities for 2 hours, but I would definitely reapply during hotter days just to be safe. The formula is very concentrated and a little goes a long way.

Raw Elements

Easy to apply in its stick applicator and includes a lovely combination of ingredients. Of course has the non nano zinc oxide but also has a skin healing herbal blend of Chamomile, Calendula and Sunflower Seed Oil, making it a soft, creamy formula.

Fierce Nature

If you’re not a fan of the white cast then your best option is Fierce Nature! They have 4 different shades - Warm, Natural, Golden and Deep. They have a beautiful combination of skin-loving ingredients, with a unique Tallow base and of course non nano zinc oxide, avocado and MCT oils. The tints are made from natural food powders too, for example the Deep is bronzed with cacao powder.
